DFI provided Harford Community College with design and engineering services for the expansion of Parking Lot T located on the campus near the intersection of East Churchville Road and Thomas Run Road. The project scope was to expand an existing parking lot to add approximately 81 parking spaces to be accessed from existing parking Lot T. The parking lot expansion was designed to minimize disturbance to the critical root zones of several specimen trees located in the area adjacent to the proposed lot as well as to reroute an existing walking and jogging trail to accommodate the expansion.
The project required the submission of Concept Plans and Final Design Plans for review and approval by Harford Community College, Harford County Department of Public Works, Harford County Soil Conservation District as well as the Maryland Department of the Environment. DFI provided survey services utilizing robotic instruments to collect field run topography and to locate existing features in the area of the project. Stormwater management for the project utilized environmental site design to the maximum extent practical by way of providing two (2) bio-swales, two (2) bio-retention areas and utilizing disconnection of non-rooftop runoff. Proposed drainage areas were designed to mimic existing conditions. DFI coordinated geotechnical services for purposes of evaluating soil conditions for stormwater management design as well to determine the appropriate sub-base and pavement section for the proposed parking areas and drive aisles. DFI also provided assistance to Harford Community College with the bid selection process for a site contractor to complete the improvements.
