Development Facilitators, Inc. (DFI) provided final design engineering services to Calvert County Department of Public Works for design and permitting of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Hardesty Road realignment project. The project is located at the intersection of Hardesty Road and Dalrymple Road and the purpose of the project increased sight distance exiting Hardesty Road and created a safe left turn from Dalrymple Road onto Hardesty Road. The scope of services for this project included survey and design services to complete construction drawings. The following tasks were included in the design:
PHASE 1 – Feasibility: DFI performed all topographic and boundary survey work, including drainage requirements, property line determinations and soil investigations necessary to develop a preliminary design layout of the intersection including base topographic plans, profiles and cross section information; prepare preliminary cost estimate. Met with County staff to discuss and evaluate requirements and options in order to provide appropriate safe and efficient operation of the roadways involved; determine potential project impacts to existing utilities to include coordination and communications with utility representatives including SMECO, Verizon and Comcast; determine right-of-way and easement acquisition requirements.
PHASE 2 - Preliminary Investigation: Prepared alignment, profile and preliminary grading to determine impacts and resolve potential design issue. Analyzed stormwater management (SMW) and determined what the requirements to meet ESD to the MEP.
Semi-Final Plan: Prepared road design plans to include plan view, grading, typical section and profile. Prepared culvert computations and plan and profile. Prepared SWM computations and design facility and show plan, section, and specifications on the plan. Prepared maintenance of traffic plans. Prepared striping and signage plan. Prepared Erosion and Sediment Control Plans. Addressed Forest Conservation Requirements & Department of Natural Resources Permitting. Prepared cost estimates. Prepared Easement Plats. Attended Semi-Final meeting. Coordinated with Utility Companies for relocations. Geotechnical Engineering - Obtain SWM Boring, Road Boring & Report.
Final Plan: Addressed any comments to the plans generated during the Semi-final review.
Construction Phase: Assist with bid process and provide survey construction stakeout services.
