Development Facilitators, Inc. (DFI) provided recommendations to county officials about how to address drainage issues, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance and maintaining existing property owner aesthetics, with many of the suggestions incorporated into the Solomons Island sidewalk project, located in Calvert County, Maryland. DFI also tracked funding through the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDSHA), including materials clearance for specific items.
Modifications included the construction of 2,180 linear feet of ADA compliant brick pavers. The design of the project is intended to tie together existing streetscape paver sidewalks to the north and south near the Calvert Marine Museum and the Drum Point Lighthouse in Calvert County. The project design featured modifications to the existing drainage system, reconstruction of existing paver driveways and walkways, stormwater management, signage and pavement markings. Period street lighting and landscaping were intended to blend with the historical look of the area.
