The Hancock Resolution Historic Visitor's Center is a replica model of a period barn to complement the existing historic buildings on the site that creates an air of authenticity for a visitor's experience.
DFI provided Construction Management and Inspection (CM&I) services for this Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Baltimore Chapter's award-winning project. The project scope included the construction of a time replica Visitor's Center located on a National Historic Landsite, which included extensive utility site work to accommodate the installation of a 12,000-gallon underground fire suppression tank. Additional site work included septic fields and a septic solid holding tank, drilling and installation of a water well system, grading, excavation, Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) electric tie-in and a new transformer.
The project included museum high level wood and paint finishes, unique and historic timber framing of the structure, wood decking, finished carpentry including an oak stair and handrail and oak threshold transitions. Special attention was taken to assure Erosion and Sediment Controls (E&SC) were maintained due to proximity to critical areas, wetlands and direct runoff to the Bodkin Creek Watershed and Patapsco River waterways.
Innovatively, DFI introduced the utilization of Procore, a cloud-based document control program, which provided real time access to stakeholders and to ensure transparency of services provided. DFI also provided review and coordination of the addition of walkway lighting, water treatment system and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) upgrades to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions. This project was completed during the zenith of the COVID-19 Pandemic and with careful pre-planning and protocols in coordination with the Contractor, only one (1) day of work was lost.
